Skylight cleaning
Why skylights get dirty so fast
Skylights sit higher than any other window, so they get the most sun. They are almost always on a flat roof or a low slope, where rain does not wash the dirt away. Pollen, leaves, seed fluff, tree sap and bird droppings stay on the glass and bake in the sun, and from inside the room it shows up as a gray haze that takes the light away.
That is why skylights need regular cleaning. If they are left for years, the buildup can damage the glass, and you can end up having to replace it. A cleaning twice a year costs far less than new skylight glass.
We clean skylights by hand with a brush, cleaning solution and squeegee, usually together with a regular window cleaning, so the whole house is done in one visit.
Why clean skylights twice a year
- They get more sun than any other window
- Flat roof or low slope: dirt does not wash off
- More light in the room
- Protects the glass from lasting damage
